About the Session

In the grand tradition of reality shows, but without the drama,  Mary and Debbie will review your donor communication samples (submitted ahead of time) and offer tips and suggestions on how to make them more effective and donor-centric. In addition to their insights, the group will also comment on what works and what doesn't, and share their suggestions on how to make the best communication piece for your donors. Hear from your peers about approaches they've tried, their writing challenges and how they overcame them. This constructive, creative and interactive session will leave you feeling inspired!

About the Speaker

Debbie Meyers
Chief Inspiration Officer
EDIT!

Debbie Meyers has worked in advancement for more than 30 years, much of that time in higher education, most recently heading advancement operations at Chautauqua Institution. In addition to creating or enhancing donor relations and stewardship programs at the University of Maryland, Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Florida, she has built communications and development programs for a Catholic high school, an art museum and a health center development office.

A founding board member of ADRP, she chaired the international conference in 2011 and has a consecutive streak of presenting at every ADRP international conference, and some even before ADRP was formed. Debbie has a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in journalism, thanks to her mother who corrected her grammar from her first spoken word. She married her high school drum major, and they have four grown children and two goofy dogs.

Mary Weingartner
Director of Donor Relations
The University of Chicago

Mary has worked in donor relations for nearly 15 years, beginning at the University of Illinois Foundation in 2006. In 2009, she joined the University of Chicago’s donor relations team and later became director of alumni relations and external engagement for Loyola University’s Health Sciences Division. Next, Mary managed stewardship for a portfolio of corporate and foundation donors at YMCA of the USA, the national resource office for local YMCAs. Today, Mary is what the University of Chicago calls a boomerang, having returned to alumni relations and development in 2016. Currently, she leads the donor relations team and their work to create meaningful donor experiences that deepen relationships with the university. Mary is an active member of ADRP and chaired the 2018 International Conference in St. Louis and the 2019 International Conference in Miami.
