Building Community with an Acknowledgement Process

What do you do when you’re facing a database conversion that will lead to significant changes in user access, impacting how university-wide teams generate timely, accurate, and meaningful donor acknowledgment letters in a decentralized environment? In this session, we will explain the technology-driven process that the University Alumni and Development Program built to solve this complex question. We also will highlight the acknowledgment support community created alongside it. This community advanced a collaborative spirit among the 100+ staff members engaged in acknowledgment activity and bolstered their capacity to thoughtfully and intentionally acknowledge University of Arizona’s donors.

- Learn how the University of Arizona leveraged a technology-driven process to address user access changes and support timely, accurate, and donor-centric acknowledgment letters.
- Learn how the University of Arizona employed robust stakeholder involvement and a focus on best practices to serve diverse needs of acknowledgment production in a decentralized environment.
- Learn how the use of this digital process opened the door to create and cultivate a learning community among staff across campus to promote best practices and training around donor acknowledgments

About the Speakers |
Danielle Raines Senior Coordinator, Stewardship Operations University of Arizona
Danielle supports cross-campus stewardship of donors and fellow Wildcats through her work with the central stewardship team. Her first foray into the non-profit sector was as an AmeriCorps member in 2011, and she never looked back. Danielle has been with the University Alumni and Development Program for five years, first with the University Libraries and now as a part of the central advancement office. She received her bachelor’s degree in international studies from Johns Hopkins University and her master’s degree in public administration from the University of Arizona.

Katie James Associate Director, Stewardship University of Arizona
Katie James is Associate Director of Stewardship at the University of Arizona. In this role, she supports strategic, coordinated, and consistent donor stewardship across campus. With over 15 years of experience in non-profit development and operations, Katie is dedicated to serving both her local community, as well as, the University of Arizona Wildcat family. Katie joined the University of Arizona team in 2014, spending her first 3 years fundraising for the Health Sciences before transitioning to the central advancement office. Her team supports the university-wide stewardship program, with a specific focus on presidential acknowledgments, annual and endowment reporting, principal gift strategy, and lifetime recognition societies. She received her Master of Public Administration from the University of Arizona, and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Colorado State University.
